What about the Uploaders?

As the culture industries and people who work for those industries suffer from illegal downloading and sharing, many people have raised their voice against those illegal downloaders. Recently, it was reported that some Internet users were heavily fined for downloading films and soap operas from the Internet. However, illegal sharing of films and music should be dealt with radical solutions; it has to be related to not downloaders, but uploaders first.

First, it is almost the uploaders who get benefit from sharing files. In most P2P web sites, uploaders get money for each download. There even are people who make their living by uploading files. In case of movies, each file costs from 200 won to 3,000 won and the web sites, as brokers do, take about 30% of the money and the rest of it goes to the uploaders. Some people argue that downloaders are also getting benefit from illegal sharing as they get those films or other files for relatively lower costs and I agree with that point. However, we should notice that those downloaders are paying some amounts of money though it's much cheaper than it should be while uploaders pay nothing for their illegal sharing.

Second, it is the uploaders who illegally copied original movies and music in the first place. Those uploaders, to make the movies and music into the computer files, illegally record those films and music. They use some computer programs to abstract video files from DVD or Blue-ray CDs or record music in the same way. After that, they upload those files on the Internet and make money from it. Many people say that no matter who made the first illegal copies of movies and music, downloaders still have responsibilities and should be punished and I understand their opinion. In real world, for example, in case of smuggling, not only sellers but also buyers are punished for their crime. However, sellers are much more heavily punished than buyers and the problem is that in case of copyright violation on the Internet, there are few differences between punishments for uploading and downloading.

Lastly, those uploaders are not just sharing one or two films or music. They upload countless files while downloaders usually download a few files. As discussed earlier, some uploaders make their living by sharing files illegally and to make enough money, they have to upload a great deal of movies and music. They even upload books and pictures sometimes. However, downloaders usually download just what they're interested in or what they need. They don't download more than that.

Both uploading and downloading are bad in terms of copyrights and intellectual property protection and violation. However, in order to stop those illegal sharing, more radical solution is required and it is to stop the uploaders not downloaders because it is those uploaders who make money from sharing, copy original files in the first place and share a number of files on the Internet.  Considering this, we should not only say "Let's not download illegally" but also say "Let's not upload illegally" first.

    1. What I like about this piece of writing is the content includes the specific details such as cost or percentage.
    2. Your main point seems to be that illegal sharing of films and music should be dealt with radical solutions, especially regarding to the uploaders.
    3. This particular words or lines struck me as powerful : your main point - punishing the uploaders. Unlike most of people who think of the downloaders as the first ones to be punished, you mention that the uploaders is worse than them. It is interesting.
    4. Some things aren't clear to me. That's because some sentences has long subject or you put many phrases within one sentence.
    5. The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece of writing is to divide sentences as mentioned above.

    1. What I like about this piece of writing is that you did not only talk about movie sharing, but you expand your opinion to discuss about internet uploading/downloading system.

    2. Your main point seems to be that movie uploading should be controlled in order to prevent illegal downloading

    3. These particular words or lines struck me as powerful:
Considering this, we should not only say "Let's not download illegally" but also say "Let's not upload illegally" first.
(Conclusion) It clearly summarizes what you insist in the conclusion paragraph.

    4. Some things aren’t clear to me. These lines or parts could be improved (meaning not clear, supporting points missing, order seems mixed up, writing not lively):
In fourth paragraph, concession or reputation logic for argumentative writing should be introduced, but it seems your writing does not have them.

    5. The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece of writing is your introduction. It is a little bit weak to grasp readers' attention.

  3. It's second draft of my persuasive writing. I revised some sentences to make them shorter and tried to use better hook to draw readers' attention.

    What about the Uploaders?

Let’s suppose someone stole a piece of fine art from a museum last night. Police would secure the scene of crime and some people, gathering around the museum, would say the robber must be fined or sentenced for his crime. However, what if there was an accomplice to help the robber? What if he lured the robber to steal the painting for his own sake? As the culture industries and people working for those industries suffer from illegal downloading, many people have raised their voice against illegal downloaders. Recently, it was reported that some Internet users were heavily fined for illegal downloading. However, illegal sharing of films and music should be dealt with radical solutions; it has to be related to not downloaders, but uploaders first.
First, it is almost the uploaders who get benefit from sharing files. In most P2P web sites, uploaders get money for each download. There are even people who make their living by uploading files. In case of movies, each file costs from 200 won to 3,000 won and uploaders take about 70% of the money; the rest 30% goes to the web sites owners. Some people argue that downloaders are also getting benefit from illegal sharing as they get those files for relatively lower costs and I agree with that point. However, we should notice that those downloaders are still paying some amounts of money though it’s much cheaper than it should be. In contrary, uploaders pay nothing for their illegal sharing.
Second, it is the uploaders who violated the copyright laws in the first place. Those uploaders, illegally record those films and music and make them into computer files. After that, they upload those files on the Internet and make money by selling them. Many people say that no matter who made the first illegal copies of movies and music, downloaders still have responsibilities and I understand their opinion. In real world, for example, in case of smuggling, not only sellers but also buyers are punished for their crime. However, sellers are much more heavily punished than buyers. Furthermore, the problem is that in case of copyright violation on the Internet, uploaders and downloaders are almost equally punished.
Lastly, those uploaders are not just sharing one or two films or music. They upload countless files while downloaders usually download a few files. As discussed earlier, some uploaders make their living by sharing files illegally. In order to make enough money, they have to upload a great deal of movies and music. They even upload books and pictures sometimes. However, downloaders usually just look for what they’re interested in or what they need. They don’t download more than that. Some say the number of files doesn’t matter in terms of ethics and it’s true. Illegal sharing is a bad thing whether it was just once or more than 100 times. However, we’re talking about ‘laws’ and ‘punishments’, not ethics or conscience. Heavy uplodaers should be more punished than downloaders.
