Hannah Bae/The Argumentative Essay/Tue3,4

We are living in the world of illegal downloading. Almost everyone has done it at least once in a lifetime. Some say the downloaders violate the copyright rule and commit a crime, therefore, they are the problems. However, we should think about whose fault it is actually and what the real problems are. Is it only caused by the bad downloaders? Aren’t there any other causes?

In the first place, we should think about the right way of downloading something such as music or movies. When we want to find that sort of thing, we usually search the websites where provide them. Then, what if there aren’t available websites? Especially, in cases of movies, we cannot find them easily. Here arises a real problem. People start to make sharing websites. Because they have no other options, they just give someone what they already have and get what they want to see. In this process, as mentioned, they violate the copyright rule.

Filmmakers say because of the downloaders without conscience, they cannot get benefits from the works even though they tried very hard to make good works. Just think about the DVD of movies. We can easily borrow them from local comics shop at a very cheap price. If there were useful and convenient websites where we can download them like at a comics shop, people would use it without violating the rules. Also, the filmmakers can get the money from it. However, they are just arguing about the providers and downloaders, not considering making websites.

Also, people who love to go to theater are keep going and watching in there. In daily life, people talk about the new movies and often watch them. Still, a lot of people enjoy watching movies in theater when hanging out with friends or dating with somebody. The movies what people usually download are what stopped running. Therefore, it’s not about the profits of the filmmakers when nowhere is selling the products.

To sum up, the role of the filmmakers are really important. Instead of blaming the downloaders, they should start to think about making websites. Then, the illegal downloading will decrease and they may get benefits. Changing from the world of illegal to legal downloading, it’s not that difficult.

I like that you guide the readers very kindly showing that how you had come to have this point of view. You show your reasons with more detailed three reasons. (although I am not sure that those three reasons are clearly independent. Some of them could be mixed in one paragraph.)

    Words or lines:
Here arises a real problem : a useful rhetoric experession I think.

like at a comics shop, : a comic shop is a very appropriate metaphore. It is prevail even nowdays. so I think people will get the idea of using a comic shop as a metaphore.

websites : You keep arguing about making websites. I know what you are saying probably because I share the same idea with you. However, It is obviously unclear. What kind of websites? Some people will not get what you mean. I think you should explain more clearly and specifically on this 'websites' thing.

    5. The one change you could make that would make the biggiest imporovement in this piece of writing is

I really like your point of view and your supporting reasons. I find those are very persuasive especially because it is from the users' point of view. However I am not sure that those three reasons are clearly independent. Some of them could be mixed in one paragraph. First, second and third reasons somewhat shares some similar arguing points. They are too coherent to be scattered in three different paragraphs. It means your opinion could be collapsed with only one counter-arguement not with three different counter arguments.

1.What I like about this piece of writing is that you suggested interesting idea which was blaming the film makers.

    2. Your main point seems to be that filmmakers are to be blamed.

3.These particular words or lines struck me as powerful:
downloaders without conscience - interesting expression of illegal downloaders.

    4. Some things aren't clear to me. These particular words or lines could be imporved.
If there were useful and convenient websites where we can download them like at a comics shop, people would use it without violating the rules. - We actually have legal websites where you can freely download movies. But people are using illegal sites because we should pay in legal sites. So I guess making a convenient websites will not change anything.

5.The one change you could make that would make the biggiest imporovement in this piece of writing is
I can't understand why you wrote about watching movies in the theater in fourth paragraph. I can't really find the connection between the fourth paragraph and points you've made previously. You were talking about blaming filmmakers and all of sudden you are talking about people enjoy watching movie in the theater.

  3. We are living in the world of illegal downloading, usually for music or movies. Almost everyone has done it at least once in a lifetime. Some say it’s the downloaders who violate the copyright rules and commit a crime, therefore, they are the problems. However, we should think about what the real causes are. They are insufficient legal downloading websites, convenient free websites such as Youtube, and inefficient legal ways like DVD.

In the first place, a lack of appropriate downloading websites makes people violate the copyright rules. When we want to find and download something legally, we usually search the websites where provide them with fee. Then, what if there aren’t available websites? Especially, in cases of movies, unlike music, we cannot find them easily. Here arises a real problem. People start to make sharing websites. Because they have no other options, they just give someone what they already have and get what they want to see.

Second, when we think of Youtube where we can watch or listen something freely, paying for those materials seems awkward. In these days of high-end technologies, people have smartphones on their hands and are able to use it in anywhere. Whenever we google music on Youtube, we can watch the music videos or live performances without payment. Why would people pay when they have another convenient and easy way?

Finally, in case of movies, it costs too much money and time for DVD. When the movies you wanted to watch stopped running, there are no way but waiting for the DVD. It’s definitely a legal way to buy DVD and watch it. However, DVD usually takes a lot of time to be published. Also, it costs in average 15,000 won. People who want to watch it just for one time doesn’t need to pay that much and are not patient to waiting for it without illegal downloading.

To sum up, inefficient and scarce legal ways of downloading make people exhausted and use more convenient illegal downloading ways. Before blaming people, we should think of those causes and try to fix them first.
