Intellectual property rights

200902928 Im-chaemin(EIT)

How much do you know about the intellectual property right? It has become a big issue these days but many people don't seem to be aware of it well. It is not too much to say that everything people are using is related to it. People have the right to protect their creations and defend them. Therefore, people must not infringe the other's productions and legal means to protect the creator's right should be strengthened.

First of all, infringing the intellectual property rights is illegal. Even though the creations are intangible, they are basically involved in the properties and belong to the creators. They are also not common property and therefore it is evident that they should be protected from those who illegally try to take them away.

The more people take care of intellectual property rights, the more inventors will try to create products. If inventors notice that their creations are taken away without their permission, they may not try to invent a new product any more because they think that they are treated unfairly. The products are not only for the inventors and can be used for all the people. In addition, inventors may lead their life only with their creations and have no means of life except creating. Therefore, inventions should be protected not just for inventors but also all the people.

Some people might think that even though a particular individual made ideas or invisible products, there are also possibilities that the other person can create the same things. In their point of view, having the right to protect one's ideas is not appropriated. However, without any protection measurements the creators cannot be motivated to create new products and this is the most important factor that justifies the intellectual property right.

I strongly believe that all kinds of property must be protected even though it is invisible or intangible and therefore the intellectual right also must not be infringed. All of these are not just for the group of the inventors or creators but also all the people in the world. Isn't it reasonable that people should be rewarded for their works if they are useful?

  2. To Im chaemin From Myong Hwa Yang
    1. What I like about this piece of writing is the first sentence. By using a question sentence, this writing draws attention and interest.
    2. Your main point seems that all kinds of property must be protected.
    3. These particular words or lines struck me as powerful: 'The more people take care of intellectual property rights, the more inventors will try to create products.'
The reason that I like is that I also think that people need to more consider the others' creative things.
    4. Some things aren't clear to me. One of them is 'inventors may lead their life only with their creations and have no means of life except creating'. It is a little bit absurd to conclude that creations is only thing to inventors.
    5. The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece of writing is to add some reasonable explanation in the 4th paragraph.

1. What I like about this piece of writing is you've written the essay following to the instruction written on page 103. On the third body paragraph, you've used the counter-argument.

2. Your main point seems that IPR should be protected.

3. These particular words or lines struck me as powerful:

    Words or lines:
    Second body paragraph

    I like them because:
Your argument is so similar to me. Also, the reasoning for that is almost same as mine, especially on the second paragraph. As you said, IPR should be protected for all people, including creators and public.
    4. Some things aren't clear to me. N/A

    Lines or parts:

    Need improving because:

5. The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece of writing is in your writing there's some sentences that have heavy subject or object. I mean you should have used an extraposition(clefting or something like that). But, in general, your writing looks great to me.

Some people might think that even though someone come up with an idea, there are also possibilities that the other person also have the same idea. In their point of view, it is not appropriate to have the right to protect one's idea. I understand that idea cannot belong to a certain person. However, although it has no visible form it should be regarded as one's own property. Without any protection measurements the creators cannot be motivated to create new products and this is the most important factor that justifies the intellectual property right.
