| The Necessary Abilities to Be a Translator
Among a lot of moments which are brilliant to me, this year is the most meaningful. That is because I quit my job and started studying again early this year. Whenever talking about my fresh start to other people, I often get asked the reason for doing it. The answer is, of course, to prepare for my future job – a translator. Since long before, becoming a translator has been my dream and now I am trying to get the dream to come true. In order to a great translator, what abilities do I have to get? First of all, the language fluency is the most important ability. It seems that no more explanation is necessary about this one. Literally, a translator is the person who changes one language into the other language. For this reason, people who have that job are required to become adept at using the language. Another ability needed is abundant knowledge and experience. It is said to read between the lines. That implies the hidden meanings which is not shown on the page exist. If a translator is rich in knowledge and has a lot of experience, she or he may find these things and can deliver them easily to readers. Lastly, it is needed to keep studying. Our world changes every single moment. Whenever we blink our eyes, new things come in and out and today's inventions become tomorrow's obsolete ones. So, by studying and observing novel things steadily, translators try to keep up with the times and tell their readers about stories in the way that the time prefers. While reading some articles or books, I find several translators who continue to learn what they are curious about or what they think is necessary. This is so impressive and makes me reflect on myself as the person who wants to be a translator. In order that my dream comes true in the future, I will endeavor to keep the abilities as mentioned above.

ReplyDelete1.What I like about this piece of writing is that you started your essay with your personal anecdote. I think it's eye-catching and makes the reader wants to read more.
2. Your main point seems to be that language fluency, abundant knowledge, and studying hard are required to be a translator.
3. These particular words or lines struck me as powerful:
Whenever we blink our eyes, new things come in and out and today's inventions become tomorrow's obsolete ones.
It's one of the clichéd quotes used in writings and speeches, but I liked it because it's used in the right place.
4. Some things aren't clear to me. These lines or parts could be improved(meaning not clear, supporting points missing, order seems mixed up, writing not lively): in the third paragraph, I think you should've written more details about "abundant knowledge." You only elaborated on "experience."
5. The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece of writing is:
Overall, your writing need more supporting details for each body paragraph to make it more coherents.

The links between your supporting sentences and your main arguments are a little weak, meaning it would be better if you had more details. For example, in the first body paragraph, you could explain more about how language fluency could facilitate the process of translating. You could say that being fluent can lessen the effort of looking up a lot of words on the dictionary, or make the target text sound more natural and so on.
5. The one change you could make that would make the biggest improvement in this piece is to give detailed support about how you are willing to acquire the skills needed to become a translator. It is true that you need the three skills written in the essay, but it would be better if you added some parts about how you have or are willing to learn those skills to become better at translating.
