In the global age, a lot of interchanges happen actively. But because the language people use is different, they need a medium to communicate. One of the medium is the translator. The translator changes one written language into another making people able to communicate without difficulty. To be a translator, one needs following three big abilities.
First, a person who wants to be a translator must have the linguistics sense. Translating is a job involving language works. To be a professional translator, one needs to have linguistic sense to come up with equivalent words for the target text, when looking at the source text. For example, a person who does not have a linguistic sense would not be able to find appropriate word in the context. But a person with a linguistic sense can find appropriate word that fits well with other words and plays a same role as the source text word. So linguistic sense is required to a translator for their work to be fluent and sound natural.
Second, cultural understanding is needed to be a translator. Translating is transferring words into different one but also transferring different culture. So the translator must be aware of how both source and target language culture is like for accurate ad precise translation. For example, when translating tour guide, a translator must have some ideas about the background information of source language's tourists' attractions. Also he needs to be aware of target language culture in order to explain them effectively.
Last, translating experience is important ability to be a translator. A professional and student may have same linguistic sense or cultural understanding. But they can never have same amount of experience. A professional have done a lot of translating and through the works, they gained some experiences that makes their translating different from students' subtly. They have better word choices, can construct sentences in more compact way and can organize the translated text clearly. Theory studies can never help people on these questions.
In conclusion, a translator needs linguistic sense, cultural understanding and translating experience. When these three are blended properly, a good work of translation will result. It would be hard to be excellent on all these three sections, but if we update our knowledge base by reading novels to raise linguistic sense, stay alert an current issues to have cultural understanding and practice steadily, we could be a great translator sometime.

In some books, you might find appropriate sentence to add in each paragraph as an example. For instance, when you were talking about 'understanding culture', just mention the cases of it. We are learning translation so we feel close to what you are talking. However, some don't know much about the translating job, therefore explain it and show it clearly by daily uses-i mean, example sentences. It will strengthen your essay, I believe.
