A Club Performance

From academic societies to bands, there are a variety of clubs here in HUFS and each club has its own purpose. Bands, which aim to have a wonderful and unforgettable performance on a stage, encourage their members to practice and prepare for the performance. An acoustic guitar club NoreNare also does the same thing. It holds regular performances on the third or fourth week in May and November and inspires its members to prepare for the concerts. About more than 30 students try out an audition, gather and practice at the club room after their class, and finally take the stage.

First, about a month before the performance, club leaders inform detail information about the performance such as date, location, set lists and plans of auditions and practice. Then, after looking through the notice, old members as well as newly joined members look for songs they want to play or sing on the set lists. Once they decide what song they want to perform, then they should try out an audition to prove that they can handle the song. Sometimes the audition looks like a competition as more than one or two members apply for the same song. However, for one session, only one member can get the place. Club leaders decide the winner and then, after all sessions are occupied, performing members start to practice.

Practicing usually starts two or three weeks before the concert. During this period, every member presumed to perform on the stage gathers at the club room and practices together after their class. The practice often ends near midnight. Also, if needed, some members are asked to come to practice even on weekends so that they don't lag behind. After two or three weeks of practicing, finally the day of performance comes.

Usually there is no practice on the day before the concert. Singers are required to take good care of their voice and players are encouraged not to get hurt on their hands or fingers. Then finally the big day comes. In the morning, all members meet at the performing location and then set up equipments and instruments such as speakers, monitors, lines, key boards and so on. After then, they have lunch all together and practice for the last time. This time, however, they practice as if it is the real performance which they are going to do within a few hours. After one or two times of practice, audience appears at the hall and concert begins.

Although it seems to be easy on the surface to perform on a stage, members had to take lots of times and efforts and there were a series of process for it. Leaders had to make plans and make decision on many matters whether they are trivial or important and members had to take auditions, practice until late evening for two or three weeks. However, though it wasn't an easy job to prepare for a concert, it makes them feel alive and passionate. That's why club members still want to perform and memories will stay in their heart forever.
