Families are getting smaller and smaller. Fewer kids are born every year and most adults live apart from their parents nowadays. Moreover, some people just live alone. For centuries, the way of family life has been changed rapidly because of the industrialization and now it has some bad consequences.
The modern life was highly influenced by the industrialization. First, the young people left their hometowns to work and study in big cities. Also, because the workforces in agriculture are not that needed anymore in the industrialized societies, parents gave birth to babies less than before. In addition, thanks to medical development, the death rate of newborns heavily decreased which related to the lower birth rates also.
Then, what are the consequences of these modern lives? There are some positive effects, of course. For example, parents can devote to children better than before because they have just one or two kids generally. However, we may find negative points more often and easily. First, the elder people were left out. They stuck in their town and just wait for their children to come. They feel lonely and have nothing to do and this is considered as a big problem these days.
In other point of view, when we look at the influence on kids, the problem even gets worse. Without those grandparents, kids cannot know the hierarchy of families like before. This environment affects them to face with interpersonal problems later. Just few decades ago, children knew how to obey and help the older people and they thought it was mandatory. However, we can often hear the news of the young people who treated the elders in a bad and insulting way now.
Maybe it would be too soon to tell whether the change of lifestyle is negative or positive. However, there certainly rise many problems because of this trend and now we need to face each of them. We should recognize the cause, industrialization and effects, the problem of elder people and young people as they are. Thus, we may find the answer for keeping this trend in a good and healthy way.
